Dawn LaRoque is a Senior Patient Safety and Quality Consultant with VCU Health System. Dawn oversees the cause analysis program, safety event reporting, PSO data submission and collaboration, and the organization's PSES. In addition, Dawn is responsible for the Culture of Safety survey within the organization and patient safety data analysis. She also supports the Patient Safety team and the organization through mentoring and coaching. Dawn started her professional career as Medical/Surgical nurse. She also worked in Home Health and Public Health before settling into Cardiac nursing, holding differing leadership positions. After 12 years of bedside nursing Dawn moved into a role with the Quality team where she began work as a team member, moved into a local and then System Managerial role followed by a Director role. Dawn is now at VCU Health System focusing on her passion for Patient Safety as a Senior Patient Safety and Quality Consultant. Dawn is a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality and a certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belt. She completed the Quality and Safety Certificate at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement. She was a finalist for the March of Dimes Nurse of the Year Award in Care Management/Quality and has been recognized by her peers with an Excellence in Collaboration Award. Dawn has presented posters and breakout sessions at multiple conferences. Dawn is a member of the Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honor Society, the National Association for Healthcare Quality and the Virginia Association for Healthcare Quality. She sits on the Healthcare Quality Certification Commission that oversees the CPHQ certification both domestically and internationally. Dawn holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from James Madison University and a Master of Science in Nursing Leadership in Health Systems Management from Drexel University.
