Work in Action: Care for the Caregiver

Harm from adverse events doesn’t stop at the patient and their family. The emotional and physical impact on professionals working in quality and safety is all too real, and too often overlooked. The result: NAHQ data reveals that 63% of quality & safety professionals are experiencing burn outOrganizations are beginning to recognize the importance of providing care for their quality & safety staff. By prioritizing the well-being of quality & safety professionals healthcare organizations can enhance employee satisfaction and retention safeguard against errors and promote a culture of continuous improvement in patient care. This session will outline potential sources of harm, including incident stress, emotional labor, abusive supervision and/or culture, and competing priorities. The organizational impact from safety events will also be examined. Leave this session with actions and tips to prevent harm and to care for yourself and your team.
