Managing Editor - The Keckley Report

Dr. Keckley is an independent health industry analyst. His 50-year career includes operating roles in public and private sectors in the U.S. system and abroad.

His focus is interpretation of trends that impact the future of the U.S. health system and advising organizations about strategies for sustainability and growth. He uses a proprietary framework to assess trends in clinical & technologic innovation, regulatory policy, public and private capital deployment, competition, market structure and consumer attitudes and actions (including spending) across all sectors in health delivery and financing.

He publishes The Keckley Report (The Keckley Report - Paul Keckley), an independent weekly compilation of news, studies and perspective. He is also a columnist for Healthcare Executive and regular contributor to health industry coverage by CNN, Modern Healthcare, STAT, Healthcare Financial Management, Health Leaders, Politico, Business Insider, Fortune, New York Times, Wall Street Journal and others. He has authored 3 books and 250 articles and published studies in peer-reviewed journals about the emergent role of consumers in U.S. healthcare, clinical approval processes used by insurers to authorize coverage and others.

In 2010, he facilitated negotiations between the White House and leading healthcare trade organizations pursuant to the passage of the Affordable Care Act and is considered an expert on U.S. health policies specific to delivery and financing. He continues to advise federal and state policymakers about trends and issues related to current and proposed legislation.

Before founding The Keckley Group in 2015, he served as Executive Director, Navigant Center for Health Research and Policy Analysis, Washington DC (2013-2015), Executive Director, Deloitte Center for Health Solutions, Washington DC (2006-2013), Executive Director, Vanderbilt Center for Evidence-based Medicine, Nashville TN (1999-2006), President, PhyCor Management Corporation, Nashville TN (1994-1999) and Principal, Keckley Healthcare Market Research, Nashville TN (1974-1993).

He serves on the Boards CaroNova, Charlotte NC; Constellation Quality Health, Greenville SC; and the Disruption Lab in Nashville TN. He previously served on the boards of PhyCor, Healthways, Sullivan Cotter, Interdent, Ohio State Medical Center, Advent Health-Hendersonville and several trade associations.

He served as Adjunct Professor in Vanderbilt University’s School of Medicine and Owen Graduate School of Management (1998-2006) and in Georgetown University’s School of Health Policy (2008-2010) and currently serves as guest lecturer at Belmont, Lipscomb, Ohio State Universities and the Nashville Health Council Fellows program.

He holds a B.S. from Lipscomb University, Nashville TN, an M.A. and Ph.D. from The Ohio State University, Columbus OH and completed a graduate fellowship at Oxford University, UK.
